Montana

Big sky country

Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier National Park, it was carved into the Earth by glaciers and erosion. The water comes from snowmelt and is crystal clear, the colorful rocks covering the lake floor can be seen from the shore. It’s easily accessed from the ‘Going-to-the-Sun Road’

We took the ‘Going-to-the-Sun Road’ to see some of the highlights of the park and I would highly suggest it to anyone interested in visiting Glacier. By the time we were on our way back through the sun was setting.

Glacier at golden hour was absolutely breathtaking!

While we were visiting Montana we saw remnants of forest fires all around the state. Some sites were effected worse than others. While it was hard to see, it was also hopeful to see flowers growing from the ashes and plenty of forest that was unaffected by the fires. While much can be lost from wildfires and they are scary to have close to home, wildlife and plant life recover quicker than you would think. Seeds start sprouting within a couple of months and after a couple of years things start looking back to normal. However a full recovery can take decades depending on several factors.

We were also given the opportunity to go white water kayaking through a part of Glacier which granted us a new perspective of the park. Unfortunately, there are no photos of that experience as we had to leave the technology behind and the photos they took were too expensive to purchase.
